There are innumerable special case situations in which you'll need to know
something about another person's background. For example:
- If you've been sued (or are suing someone), you may need to know about his
personal or professional reputation, assets, past litigation, etc.
- If you're a landlord you may wish to run some basic checks on a potential
tenant before signing a lease (Click here for a more detailed note on tenant
checks).
- If you find yourself with a new business competitor, you may want to run a
background check on him in order to get a better feel for how serious a threat
he poses.
- If you're thinking of entering into a business agreement with someone or
investing in his company, due diligence requires that you check him out first.
- If you find yourself with odd, loud or threatening neighbors, or suspect
you're being undercut with your boss by a co-worker, maybe it's time to arm
yourself with some facts about the individual or individuals in question.
Here are some basic checks you might wish to use in these situations:
- Verification of identity
- A criminal background check (usually covering the past several years)
- Checking references and former employers
- Checking the subject's name and social security number against public records
- Verifying educational background and professional/occupational licenses
- A driving record check
All these are simple, easy-to-perform checks.
If more in-depth checking is called for, you might consider any of these:
You can easily perform all these checks (except those requiring the services of
a P.I.) using BackgroundCheckGateway.
